Map of Myanmar

Map of Myanmar with surrounding areas. - Landkarte von Myanmar. - Mapa de Myanmar. - Carte de Myanmar.

Myanmar's capital is Pyinmana. The biggest city of the country is Yangun (Rangun, Rangoon). Flights to Myanmar usually go to Yangun. Other important towns are Moulmein, Bassein, Sittwe (Akyab), Taunggyi, Mandalay and Myitkyina.
The official language of Myanmar is Burmese. Burmese is written in a particular script of its onw, we simply call it here Myanmar, and which had been developed nearly 1000 years ago from a Mon script. Mon had been developed about 1500 years ago from a precedent script of Khmer. Khmer was derived from an old Indian Brahmi script.
The Myanmar script looks very beautiful, with rounded letters because it had originally been written on palm leaves. In our map we have shown the names of the localities in the Latin and Myanmar scripts. The Göttingen University Library possesses a map of Myanmar in the original script. This online map in this high resolution is perhaps unique in the internet.
Tourism is of lower importance in Myanmar. We would appreciate more detailed information, also about tourism, flights, or individual tours to Myanmar.

This is our Map of the World with original scripts (original size 70 x 100 cm), from which the detailed map shown above has been cut out. The numbers of city inhabitants and vegetational zones were researched by hand for every country, by using the sources listed below. This procedure prevented the map from containing traditional errors provoked by simply copying such information from previous maps.

The map can be ordered for 11.50 Euros (+ postage and packing) at
