areas. - Landkarte von Indonesien (Sumatra).

Indonesia's capital is Jakarta, which is also the biggest city of the country. Flights to Indonesia usually go to either Bali or Jakarta. Most people live in Java (Jawa), other important islands are Sumatra (Sumatera), Borneo (Kalimantan), Sulawesi, Halmahera, Neuguinea (Irian Jaya), Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa, Sumba, Flores, Alor, Wetar and Timor (West).
Sumatra (in Indonesian Sumatera) is the third largest island between Asia and Australie, after New Guinea and Borneo. On Sumatra are located the cities of Banda Aceh, Lhokseumawe, Meulaboh, Langsah, Medan, Pematangsiantar, Sibolga, Padangsidimpuan, Dumai, Pekanbaru, Bukittinggi, Rengat, Padang, Jambi, Palembang, Prabumulih, Bengkulu and Tajungkarang. West of Sumatra are located the islands of Simeulue, Nias, Siberut and Engano, southwards Java (in the straits in between the volcanic island of Krakatau), to the east Riau, Lingga, Bangka and Belitung. North of Sumatra are located the Nocobar Islands, which belong to India, further north the Andaman Islands. East of the northern part of Sumatra is located the Asian mainland (Malaysia, Singapur).
The official language of Indonesia is Indonesian (bahasa Indonesia). Besides there are many other languages spoken, but none is officially recognized, some are even heavily suppressed by the government (for example Papua languages in Irian Jaya/New Guinea).
Tourism is of regionally high in Indonesia, for example in Bali. We would appreciate more detailed information, also about tourism, flights, or individual tours to Indonesia.
